The Dallas Cowboys have put together a very impressive offseason so far, as they look deeper into the offseason to the NFL draft on April 27th, they've put themselves in a great position. They can sit back and wait on their top guys to fall to them. Guys such as RB Bijan Robinson out of the home town Texas University, or even big time pass rusher Nolan Smith a proven plug and play Defensive end. We can wait and let the pick come to us.
Dream Scenario- 1st round
In the first round there are many guys I could easily say we should grab and im sure all of the Cowboys front office is having this debate as I type this. But when it comes down to it there are a few key names that are easy plug and plays. This list would include, RB Bijan Robinson, EDGE Nolan Smith, DT Calijah Kancey, WR Jordan Addison and OL Peter Skoronski. All of these guys would be instant starters if taken at 26. Granted most of these guys wont make it there it would be a fantastic pick late in the first. Another Great pick in my opinion would be CB Deonte Banks or CB Kelee Ringo. Yes, we did just trade for Gilmore, but he has one year left on his contract and he's 33. Both 6 ft and over, ran a 4.35-4.36 40 yard dash time, and can play solid man coverage. I know Dan Quinn would love a young rookie learning under a vet in Gilmore and an up and coming superstar in Trevon Diggs who's due to be paid after this year. If any of these players are available they should be taken by the Cowboys.

My Pick at 26, if available: Bijan Robinson Running back Texas
Both of these guys could very easily fall. We've seen this kind of fall happen in the past such as Cedee Lamb in the 2020 Draft, at 17 overall. The past few years it has been looked at as reaching when drafting a running back top 15, or even the first round. Not many have went. Watching Bijan's film, he reminds me of a Saquan Barkley type runner. It takes more then one guy to bring him down almost every single time he runs the ball. Can break a long run inside or outside the tackles and can punish defenders on the goal line. This would be a slam dunk type of pick at 26 for the Cowboys and fantastic start to the draft.
OR

Calijah Kancey Defensive Tackle Pittsburgh
On the other hand, you have Calijah Kancey, a little undersized for the position but boy can he get off the ball and punish a slow center or guard. His hand fighting techniques along with natural speed around interior lineman is what makes him such a high choice. Adding him to the D-line could potentially fill up that need to stop the run up the middle. He also would really help in the stunting that the Cowboys have always loved to run. When really comfortable, the Cowboys tend to blitz more often then not. Adding a speedy defensive tackle who can play 2-3 downs and can stunt at any time would be a great addition to an already strong defensive unit. The Cowboys have plenty of names at the edge spot who can get to the quarterback, I think throughout this draft the guys in the middle will be constant thought for the Cowboys.
Realistic Picks-1st round
I've emphasized this the entire blog so far and will continue to, they need to sit back and lay out all there options and have your top 26 because your getting one of them. Besides the guys mentioned above, the Cowboys could very easily end up with a multitude of players it all depends how they want this draft to go. To me if he's there OL O'Cyrus Torrence is a fantastic player and great guard to replace the loss of Connor McGovern and potentially your guard of the future. I also wouldn't mind going OT Anton Harrison or OT Dawand Jones and really locking up your left side of the offensive line for the future when Tyron's time is up at left tackle. Outside of offensive line, WR Jaylin Hyatt would be a really great play maker and speedy addition to Dak's Arsenal of weapons. Unless they believe Jalin Tolbert, or Kavontae Turpin will take steps in this offense, this would be an awesome playmaker to have especially under Cooks and Lamb for a year or two. WR Zay Flowers would be another awesome weapon to add, but I don't believe they will go this way if given the opportunity. With Dan Quinn having such a heavy influence for this team they can easily go defense at 26. One name I can see being called is DT Mazi Smith out of Michigan, by solidifying that inside of the line would be one of the bigger holes the cowboys should attempt to fill since they have yet to resign Jonathan Hankins. Lastly LB Trenton Simpson is a fantastic product out of Clemson. A reliable guy who can run your defense while covering a lot of the field from sideline to sideline.
My pick at 26: O'Cyrus Torrence Offensive guard Florida

Avoidable options
The options that the Cowboys should really stay away from in the first round. we have fantastic depth already at tight end in Jake Ferguson taking over the number 1 duties for now, and Peyton Hendershot is a very quick route runner and solid tight end 2. I would hate to see a top pick that can get us a really nice top 30 athlete on the defensive side or even a play maker. I know Dalton Kincaid as well as Michael Meyers are great players I would personally take it another way due to what we already have. Another Blunder I would hate to happen is the Cowboys waiting on Bijan Robinson to fall, which he may not, and we reach for Jahmyr Gibbs, don't get me wrong hes a fantastic athlete and he will be great things, but again the only running back i'm drafting at 26 in Bijan Robinson. I wouldn't mind a trade back to take him later on, but Im a big Bijan fan.
2nd round
Assuming all of these guys still apply after the first round, some names to watch out for would be, RB, Jahmyr Gibbs (if he falls), CB, Clarck Phillips III, LB Jack Cambell, IOL Steve Avila, IOL John Michael Schmitz, DL Keeanu Benton, LB Daiyan Henley, CB Julius Brents, CB Tyrique Stevenson. I would like to see any and all of these guys taken for the Cowboys but one that sticks out to me is Daiyan Henley, Linebacker out of Washington State. He's a really fast tough guy who makes decisions based on whats happening in front of him. He definitely shows some inconstancy when reading plays but thats something Dan Quinn can work with him on. However, when he reads it right he flys through the run gaps, and is a very talented tackler. He would be a great addition to the team. Julius Brents Corner from Kansas State would be another solid pick. A tall speedy guy who can break up routes consistently, unfortunately he's more of a zone corner so I can see the Cowboys passing on him.
My pick at 58: Tyrique Stevenson Cornerback, Miami U

3rd round picks
Obviously the more you draft theres less of a need for certain positions. In this 3rd round theres almost one of everything. Some names to look our for, QB Hendon Hooker, S Jordan Battle, CB D.J. Turner, WR Tyler Scott, CB Eli Ricks, LB Noah Sewell, LB, Demarvion Overshown, RB Tank Bigsby, DL Colbey Wooden, DL Moro Ojomo. I can go on and on. Some guys I really like are Line backer Demarvion Overshown, Corner Eli Ricks, and Running back Tank Bigsby. I know you may be saying it's to early for Tank however I don't think he'll be there at 129 for the Cowboys, he may be but he's really high on my list. To me, he's a perfect compliment back to Tony Pollard. He's not to big but he runs like he's massive, he always finishes a run falling forward, and pretty shifty. If he's used the right way he can be a great second option to Tonys speed. Eric Gray is another guy who can deliver a punch every run. If we haven't taken a receiver by this point Rashee Rice would be an awesome late pick and great weapon to add to the offense. Out of SMU, Rice is an average height at 6'1 and runs a 4.50 40 yard time when it comes to physicals not much sticks out but you can see his natural ability to track the ball. Almost reminds me of a Debo Samuel kind of player, just a natural play maker.

My Pick at 90: Demarvion Overshown Linebacker, Texas
At 90 there are many places you can go, but judging how the Cowboys interviews and meetings have been going, I think Dan Quinn loves Overshown. After watching his film I would have to agree. He has fantastic potential in this league, especially if he can put it together and be a missile coming in from the line backer position. Blitz's really well and is a weapon on blitz packages. His only problem to me would be coverage. He needs to be a little more flexible in dropping back into coverage and matching up with a faster guy. This pick would be a project pick. Typically it doesn't turn out all that well, but if it were to pan out how the Cowboys want, he can be compared to a Tremaine Edmunds type of linebacker.

My Pick at 129: DeWayne McBride Running back, UAB
This is prime Running back drafting area. Assuming he's there, I think McBride would be a perfect compliment to Pollards speedy game. Although a little under sized at 5'10, McBride plays tough always lowering his shoulder, and great on goal line situations. If Ronald Jones doesn't work out he can be a candidate to replace Ezekiel Elliots power near the goal line. He's a shifty runner who will always fall forward when finishing a run. He looks really solid in all types of offenses, however he wasn't used to much in the passing game. That's no problem since Pollard should be getting more of the targets.

My Pick at 169: Jerrod Clarke Defensive Tackle, Coastal Carolina
In my opinion the Cowboys need to fill the defensive tackle hole. This pick would definitely help. Clarke is a big body coming in at 6'4, 334. He's got long arms, very physical, and he plays with a motor. Really slid interior defender in plugging up holes and causing a pile up. If not here the Cowboys will definitely draft in this position to get depth for the upcoming years with their best defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa Needing to be paid soon.
